Norway’s Crown Princess Family Under Spotlight After Høiby Sentencing
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, first-born of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, received a prison sentence of four years for two cases of rape and domestic violence on Monday after his conviction in the case. Prosecutors presented evidence of 40 cases of criminal activity between 2018 to 2024, in which Borg Høiby sexually assaulted four women who were sleeping or in a condition where they could not resist. Although Borg Høiby was acquitted of two of the rapes, he was found guilty of having physically abused his ex-girlfriend, among other criminal acts that he confessed to doing, such as drug-related crimes and violation of restraining orders. Born without any royal status, Borg Høiby is the eldest son of the Crown Princess and has grown up alongside the future king. The scandal has affected the reputation of the royal family, especially when Crown Princess Mette-Marit is in poor health pending a lung transplant operation.
